Surat Al-Ghāshiyah - سورة الغاشية

هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ

Muhsin Khan: Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection);

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.).

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace).

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً

Muhsin Khan: They will enter in the hot blazing Fire,

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ

Muhsin Khan: They will be given to drink from a boiling spring,

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ

Muhsin Khan: No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant,

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ

Muhsin Khan: Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful,

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism).

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

Muhsin Khan: In a lofty Paradise.

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً

Muhsin Khan: Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood,

فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: Therein will be a running spring,

فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: Therein will be thrones raised high,

وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: And cups set at hand.

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: And cushions set in rows,

وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ

Muhsin Khan: And rich carpets (all) spread out.

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

Muhsin Khan: Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?

وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ

Muhsin Khan: And at the heaven, how it is raised?

وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ

Muhsin Khan: And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm?

وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ

Muhsin Khan: And at the earth, how it is spread out?

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ

Muhsin Khan: So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds.

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

Muhsin Khan: You are not a dictator over them.

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ

Muhsin Khan: Save the one who turns away and disbelieves

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ

Muhsin Khan: Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ

Muhsin Khan: Verily, to Us will be their return;

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم

Muhsin Khan: Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning.
