Surat Al-Mursalāt - سورة المرسلات

وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا

Muhsin Khan: By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another.

فَالْعَاصِفَاتِ عَصْفًا

Muhsin Khan: And by the winds that blow violently,

وَالنَّاشِرَاتِ نَشْرًا

Muhsin Khan: And by the winds that scatter clouds and rain;

فَالْفَارِقَاتِ فَرْقًا

Muhsin Khan: And by the Verses (of the Quran) that separate the right from the wrong.

فَالْمُلْقِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا

Muhsin Khan: And by the angels that bring the revelations to the Messengers,

عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا

Muhsin Khan: To cut off all excuses or to warn;

إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَاقِعٌ

Muhsin Khan: Surely, what you are promised must come to pass.

فَإِذَا النُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ

Muhsin Khan: Then when the stars lose their lights;

وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ فُرِجَتْ

Muhsin Khan: And when the heaven is cleft asunder;

وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ

Muhsin Khan: And when the mountains are blown away;

وَإِذَا الرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ

Muhsin Khan: And when the Messengers are gathered to their time appointed;

لِأَيِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ

Muhsin Khan: For what Day are these signs postponed?

لِيَوْمِ الْفَصْلِ

Muhsin Khan: For the Day of sorting out (the men of Paradise from the men destined for Hell).

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ

Muhsin Khan: And what will explain to you what is the Day of sorting out?

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Did We not destroy the ancients?

ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْآخِرِينَ

Muhsin Khan: So shall We make later generations to follow them.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Thus do We deal with the Mujrimun (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals, etc.)!

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ

Muhsin Khan: Did We not create you from a worthless water (semen, etc.)?

فَجَعَلْنَاهُ فِي قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ

Muhsin Khan: Then We placed it in a place of safety (womb),

إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

Muhsin Khan: For a known period (determined by gestation)?

فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ الْقَادِرُونَ

Muhsin Khan: So We did measure, and We are the Best to measure (the things).

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا

Muhsin Khan: Have We not made the earth a receptacle?

أَحْيَاءً وَأَمْوَاتًا

Muhsin Khan: For the living and the dead.

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُم مَّاءً فُرَاتًا

Muhsin Khan: And have placed therein firm, and tall mountains; and have given you to drink sweet water?

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

انطَلِقُوا إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Muhsin Khan: (It will be said to the disbelievers): "Depart you to that which you used to deny!

انطَلِقُوا إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِي ثَلَاثِ شُعَبٍ

Muhsin Khan: "Depart you to a shadow (of Hell-fire smoke ascending) in three columns,

لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنَ اللَّهَبِ

Muhsin Khan: "Neither shading, nor of any use against the fierce flame of the Fire."

إِنَّهَا تَرْمِي بِشَرَرٍ كَالْقَصْرِ

Muhsin Khan: Verily! It (Hell) throws sparks (huge) as Al-Qasr [a fort or a Qasr (huge log of wood)],

كَأَنَّهُ جِمَالَتٌ صُفْرٌ

Muhsin Khan: As if they were Jimalatun Sufr (yellow camels or bundles of ropes)."

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ

Muhsin Khan: That will be a Day when they shall not speak (during some part of it),

وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ

Muhsin Khan: And they will not be permitted to put forth any excuse.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَاكُمْ وَالْأَوَّلِينَ

Muhsin Khan: That will be a Day of Decision! We have brought you and the men of old together!

فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ

Muhsin Khan: So if you have a plot, use it against Me (Allah)!

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلَالٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Muhsin Khan: Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2) shall be amidst shades and springs.

وَفَوَاكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Muhsin Khan: And fruits, such as they desire.

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Muhsin Khan: "Eat and drink comfortably for that which you used to do.

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Verily, thus We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers).

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

كُلُوا وَتَمَتَّعُوا قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ

Muhsin Khan: (O you disbelievers)! Eat and enjoy yourselves (in this worldly life) for a little while. Verily, you are the Mujrimun (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals, etc.).

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَ

Muhsin Khan: And when it is said to them: "Bow down yourself (in prayer)!" They bow not down (offer not their prayers).

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Muhsin Khan: Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!

فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Muhsin Khan: Then in what statement after this (the Quran) will they believe?
